June 18, 2025. Amid an escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, Donald Trump spent an hour outside on the White House lawn watching the erection of two new 88-foot flagpoles.
“These are the most magnificent poles made—they are tall, tapered, rust proof, and the highest quality,” Trump said while standing erect to mimic the poles. These are the best poles anywhere in the country or in the world.”
Former Trump Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney expressed concern about the safety of landing the presidential helicopter Marine One near such an obstacle.
“It’s such a beautiful pole,” Trump said when he returned to the lawn later in the day.
According to Dr. Vanessa Sinclair, a psychoanalyst, during Freud’s Phallic stage, “the little boy fears that not only could he lose his penis, but that he could be exposed and everyone will see he does not have the phallus.” In older men, Sinclair says, “the phallus can symbolize an assertion of power.
